Thought One: There are some movies I want to see.
Pink Panther with Steve Martin.
Firewall with Harrison Ford
Capote. (Thanks, Karen, I had just looked it up...but, you're my on-going research.)
Thought Two: This is the global information age and I, an early twentieth century nerd (not geek), am about to enter the twenty first century geekhood. I have signed up for DSL, and made the foolish choice of self-installation of high speed modem. What do I know about such geekness? Very little. I had expected to ask a friend of my grandson to do it. How is that for casual? The friend of a relative to lead me on this leap from one age to another.
I called and asked to have an installer from SBC to do the dirty work, but was told I could "save fifty dollars" by having the parts delivered and then call a technician. Well, we will see. Had I thought about my changing centuries, I would have ordered the professional from the get-go and paid an extra fifty.
What is the fare from one world to another?

the third film you mentioned is Capote, as in Truman.
I'm in pretty much the same boat - waiting for the money and spousal cooperation to get away from dial-up.
Karen
Good luck on getting it installed... I would ask my grandson too and maybe he would have his computer wizard friend help... I would hope anyway. Oh and are you thinking of Truman Copote (not sure how to spell his last name) I really want to see the Steve Martin film too, and a couple of others... hope to see them on dvd soon but would like to see a couple on the big screen. :) Sandra
oh and how come they don't install that free...I got mine installed free from the cable company who is now combined with Aol so I got it installed free and now have aol broadband I think its called... I now pay road runner because it is a slower speed road runner but a lot faster than dial up...
i also had a tech , he charged $45.00 an hour, but i also had other things done
I'm old but not blind.. "woof".. anything with Harrison is worth seeing lol.. seriously, he is one of the few actors left that remind me of "the old actors"..
I admire you for taking the leap into DSL. I'm still dial up; haven't taken that plunge yet. Enjoy!
betty
As complicated as it may seem, it's finite. If you just keep plugging stuff in, the law of averages dictates that you will eventually plug the right things in.
Actually, Chuck, it's not all that hard. I helped my co-worker do it and we didn't yell or anything. Blessings, Penny
You will love DSL!! Just imagine zipping through all the sites you want without the waiting........
