I got a midnight phone call. I am a Great-Grandfather.
My grand-daughter, who has been expecting a girl, delivered a boy. There are still some surprises in the process, it seems. This is my first great-grandchild.
Being a new great-grandfather is not going to cut an ice around the old folks home. Great-grandchildren are as common as fleas around here. One of my tablemates had a great-grandson serving in the army in Uzbekistan. I didn't even know we had an army in Uzbekistan. His great-grandson was awaiting his return to see his son, tablemate's great-great-grandson.
I did beat tablemate, Wilma, in the great-race. Her grand-daughter is expecting. Will be Wilma's first great-grandchild, too.
And earlier in the evening, I got to deliver news that I received e-mail that Cousin Bertha is a great-grandmother. Again. Her grand-daughter in Costa Rica delivered a boy, too. Those two new babies, my great-grandchild and Bertha's great-grandchild are Fourth Cousins.
I had three or four living great-grandparents when I was born, but only got to know one of them.
My five grand-children respectfully call me "Grandfather", not "Grandpa" or "Grampaw". I hope I live long enough to have my first great-grandchild call me "Great-grandfather". I will call him "Kid". .

That is great news. Congratulations. Funny in this age of time there was a mistake on what sex the baby was going to be. Now this little boy will be wearing all pink things. NOT. Helen
BIG CONGRATS!!! I hope I live long enogh to be a GREAT grandparent. Abby is only 3. Possible, not likely. Bam
That is wonderful news about the birth of your great grandson! Having no children I do have 3 great neices and 1 great nephew. My great nephew is a year older than my brother's son who is 5. I have 2 nephews and 1 neice. It is a cold 23 degree morning here in S. Illinois and I am stoking my woodstove and sitting by my oil filled electric radiator heater in my otherwise cold kitchen in the lowest part of my cabin. I left the water dripping in the sink last night and it was no longer dripping this morning but my water line did not freeze. mark
Congrads on the new great grandson!
Congrats!!!
Deb
What a surprise!! A boy instead of a girl!! Perhaps not knowing (or thinking you know) is much better. I remember being so excited when I went into labor with Charlie, not just because I was going to see him, but because I didn't know if it was a boy or a girl! Congratulations, Great-Grandfather!!

Congratulations! Paula
Interesting, Great Grandfather, that you will choose to call the boy "Kid"...LOL Great Aunt Kate (I DO like the ring of GREAT KATE)
Congratulations! When my daughter has a baby recently, my father's comment was, "I feel fine about being a great-grandfather. What bothers me is being married to a great-grandmother!" My mother roared! Margo.
Congratulations on your great-grandson! I have a step-great, but would like the rest of the grandchildren to wait a while - I'n not 60 yet. Blessings to you Chuck, Penny http://journals.aol.com/firestormkids04/FromHeretoThere http://journals.aol.com/firestormkids04/TimeforaLittlePoetry
