Cement-ics

Sometimes the word we want to use to describe an experience doesn't exactly fit.

For example: this morning the sunny alarm woke me at seven. Then I had a warm fuzzy breakfast of Farina, muffin, and scrambled egg.  Then I took a delicious hot shower.

One of the creatures in Alice in Wonderland says, "When I use a word, it means exactly what I want it to mean.  It's just a matter of who is the boss: the word, or I."

That of course is from the author who said, "Twas brillig in the slithy tome."

Why should the meaning of a word be cast in cement?  Words should be like butterflies, flitting about and each one beautiful.

Well, as long as we know what you mean!  Was the alarm cheerful, cheering, yellow, or sun-shapped?  If the egg was fuzzy, throw it away.  (You just like fuzzy because it goes with warm).  If the shower was luxuriant, then I can buy into delicious. - Karen (who tries to mean what she wants to mean)

I think you used poetic license very well indeed.

I like what you are saying here. I love words and hate numbers. Indeed why should the meaning of a word be cast in cement? Paula

Words should be what I call elastic. I am annoyed/upset or whatever about the use of one lovely, tiny word, in this country:- Gay. The original meaning of gay was happy, glad, pretty etc. I still use it in poems at times, but now we have had "Gays" over here for years. Why, oh why, did someone decide to use that pretty little word to describe homosexual men!. Bet it was a man! Don't get me wrong, I have no objection to other peoples sexual preferences (providing they don't parade it in front of me too much). I just wish they hadn't pinched my favourite word, a word I came across aged 5 that was 53 years ago. If I did an entry and called it GAY I would probably be in trouble for political incorrectness. I love my country, England, but politial correctness is a burden we didn't need. It's ruining our English ways, customs and heritage. I will get off my soapbox now.
