Touched a Nerve

I casually mentioned that it "would be fun" to have someone call Bingo in Spanish. And WHAM a resident screamed at me, "WHY?"

I touched a nerve, but what nerve? Are people so frightened by immigrants that merely mentioning their language evokes a scream?

Gee.  The players might have to learn some Spanish if they wanted to win and that would be absolutely terrible, wouldn't it?  Downright un-American!

I think that would be fun to call bingo in spanish. I may not win though but I could try. Paula

I think Spanish is a wonderful language.   Often we think everyone should speak English to us American Tourists when visiting a foreign country out of respect for our spending money there.     Any country deserves to have their language be the most important when living or visiting in that country.      A mention of a language alone should not rate a political rant.       mark
