Irresponsible Media

I am curious about the televison networks. Last night regular programming was on. A whole city evacuating, tens of thousands homeless wandering looking for help, dozens, maybe hundreds, dead, and regular television scheduled?

They used to pre-empt the schedule to bring results of a local football game, but now, if you want to know what is going on, turn to  cable TV for CNN, or even C-SPAN.

The most powerful media, the networks, could be getting lost people together, directing rescue efforts, calming the paniced populace, reassuring, guiding.

Things have changed.

Chuck, you are watching CNN?  FOX News is better.

Yes, times are changing. Some ways for the better but some....

Yes, they have. But not everyone can take hour after hour of watching the disaster. I am too sad and get overwhelmed. I read a book last night instead. Margo

It does seem odd that they are reporting on the situations, with generators enough for light and sound, while people behind them are in the dark.  I also wonder why the military can't send in transport planes and other troop moving vehicles for faster more efficient relocation of these thousands of Americans!

Horrifying to me has been the plight of the tourists!  Tribalism?

P.S.  I agree with Margo.  It is important that we DO take some of our time, life, as usual...we get overwhelmed and seemingly impotent from watching the reports...feeling totally helpless!

I think the fact that you show so much concern for the people that are suffering shows how much you care.   Take care ,and God bless,    mark
